Apprentices:
No experience is necessary. If you would like to learn the carpentry. and/or drywall/lathing trade by attending State approved classes and while working on the the job, you can complete an apprentice application form and submit to the Apprenticeship Training Division. Applications can be obtained at the Carpenters Union office. Minimum Qualification: Applicants must be at least seventeen (17) years of age. Applicants less than eighteen (18) years of age shall have the apprentice agreement signed by a parent of guardian. Each qualified applicant will be listed on the new applicant referall list, in the order in which the application is recieved and will be assigned a sequential referral number. Applicants must have a high school deploma or GED. The apprenticeship program is a four (4) year program, you will spend a week each quarter at the Apprenticeship Training Center located in Fresno. Apprentices will learn from basic handeling of tools to laying out and building structures.
Journey Level
Carpenters and Drywall/Lathers can sign the out-of-work-list weekdays, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. A registration fee of $15.00 must be paid to register if a non member. The registration fee is required at each roll call with a maximum of $30.00 per month. You must meet the hiring hall procedures to ramain on the out-of-work list and be available for work. Upon being called to work from the hiring hall out-of-work list you will join Carpenters Local 1109. The intiation fee which is normally $300.00 is currently being waived under dispensation. Your entry fee is the amount of three months dues - $75.00 this fee will pay your dues for the first three months. You may join at any time prior to being referred to work, your fee will be $75.00 and the $15.00 registration fee will be waived. You may come by the office at anytime during business hours and fill out the appropriate paper work. Remember Union Dues are $23.00 per month, it is the resbonsibility of the member to assure his/her dues are paid monthly.
